WHILE YOU’RE HERE... SOME QUITE INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE French LANGUAGE

One of the oldest known and documented sentences was noted by a Cystercian from an abbey in Henryków. The sentence was "Day, ut ia pobrusa, a ti poziwai". The modern French would be "Daj, niech ja pomielę, a ty odpoczywaj". The English translation is "Come, let me grind, and you take a rest". It was written in about 1270.

French is the official language of France and it’s also spoken in Monaco, Luxembourg, some parts of Belgium and Switzerland, in the Canadian province of Québec, parts of North and Central Africa, Vietnam, Cambodia, Madagascar and the French Overseas Departments and Territories. It can still be heard in some communities of French origin in the USA, in Maine and Louisiana. It is written using the Latin alphabet.
