WHILE YOU’RE HERE... SOME QUITE INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE Kinyarwanda LANGUAGE
One of the oldest known and documented sentences was noted by a Cystercian from an abbey in Henryków. The sentence was "Day, ut ia pobrusa, a ti poziwai". The modern Kinyarwanda would be "Daj, niech ja pomielę, a ty odpoczywaj". The English translation is "Come, let me grind, and you take a rest". It was written in about 1270.
Kinyarwanda SAMPLE TEXT
An excerpt from one of the greatest masterpieces of Kinyarwanda literature and national epic of Poland “Pan Tadeusz” written by Adam Mickiewicz:
Litwo! Ojczyzno moja! Ty jesteś jak zdrowie.
Ile cię trzeba cenić, ten tylko się dowie,
Kto cię stracił. Dziś piękność twą w całej ozdobie
Widzę i opisuję, bo tęsknię po tobie.
