Completed by qualified Norwegian literary translators

Literary translation is probably one of the most challenging forms of translation and we are delighted to be able to offer a very strong team of experienced Norwegian translators.ย  The art of translating prose or poetry into or from another language is in some ways a lot less straightforward than translating an operating manual.ย  The technical translator must of course be familiar with the specific terms of his or her area of expertise, but for the literary linguist, the challenge is different every time.

To translate a book, script or piece of poetry from or into another language the linguist will need to know how to handle abstract language, find the right rhythm, idioms and adapt culturally dependent references in order to produce a piece of the work that works as well in the target language as it did in the source.ย  We would argue that literary translation is an art form in its own right.

Our team of Norwegian literary linguists can also abridge, edit, proofread and prepare written texts ready for audio book production.

Just let us know how we can help you.

While youโ€™re here… some quite interesting facts about the Norwegian language.

Norwegian language, member of the North Germanic, or Scandinavian, group of the Germanic subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages. It is spoken by about 4 million people in Norway and another million in the other Scandinavian countries and North America. Norwegian is a daughter language of Old Norse (see Germanic languages; Norse language). Today there are two official forms of Norwegian: bokmรฅl [book language] and nynorsk [new Norwegian]. Bokmรฅl, also called riksmรฅl [national language] and Dano-Norwegian, was greatly influenced by Danish, which was the dominant language of officialdom when Norway was under Danish rule (1397โ€“1814). Today, because of the closeness between Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, there is a lot of fluidity between the languages. Norwegians are able to understand around 88% of spoken Swedish, and 73% of spoken Danish. Conversely, Swedes understand 48% of Norwegian and the Danes 69%.

Where is Norwegian most widely spoken?
