Deaf and Blind Charities Call for Subtitles

Earlier this week, the BBC announced that audio description – commentary describing what is happening on screen – was being made available to viewers watching iPlayer on TV. The service was already available on computers, mobiles and tablets, while subtitles are available for all pre-recorded programmes on the catch-up service.

The Oscar winner was so excited to use her French skills for the first time on screen when she signed on to star as a haughty restaurateur in last year’s “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” only to find out that her French character would be speaking in accented English.

Translation grants for Scottish authors

Publishing Scotland has launched a new fund to encourage international publishers to translate work by Scottish writers.

The fund, which will be officially at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, is being run by Publishing Scotland on behalf of Creative Scotland.
